Peter Walker and his band Eulogies are poised to be the new poster-boys for what it is to be hip and indie. At least according to Darren Aronofsky's film The Wrestler which features Eulogies performing '39 Stars' in the background as Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei shop for some new clothes for his daughter at a hip thrift store. In this lo-fi video shot on cell phones at a Eulogies rehearsal, its pretty easy to get sold on what the band is offering. It's tough to boil a pop tune down to its bare essentials while maintaining an adventurous tone, much less adding to the mix a handful of rock-solid riffs that pop without stacking layer upon layer until you have the musical equivalent of a club sandwich. Here's hoping that Eulogies steps out of the thrift store and into the limelight in '09. |
